Tampere Butoh Weekend

TAMPERE BUTOH WEEKEND kutsuu tanssista kiinnostuneet tutustumaan butoh tanssiin Tampereen Legioonateatteriin 29-30.11.2025.

Luvassa on kahden päivän workshop butoh tanssija Tashi Iwaokan johdolla ja lauantaina 29.11 järjestetään Performance night, jossa nähdään kuusi butoh tanssiesitystä. Kaikkien tapahtumien paikkana on Legioonateatteri. Aiempaa tanssikokemusta osallistumiseen ei tarvita!

Tashi Iwaoka on Japanista kotoisin oleva turkulainen performanssitaiteilija / liikkuja / Butohin harjoittaja. Ensimmäisen butoh-kokemuksensa jälkeen vuonna 1997 Kazuo Ohnon ja Kim Itohin kanssa Japanissa Iwaoka on harjoittanut butoh-pohjaista työtä jo useiden vuosikymmenten ajan.

Workshop 2 päivää 100e. Early bird hinta 20.11.asti! Sen jälkeen 120e. Late bird 26.11 jälkeen 150e.

Workshopin kuvaus:

Tässä viikonlopun työpajassa Tashi Iwaoka esittelee ja työstää butoh-tanssinsa kolmea pääelementtiä.

Ne ovat: keho, liikkumisen tunne ja kehoksi tuleminen/oleminen.

Ensimmäisenä päivänä keskitytään kehoon, koska se on kaiken muun perusta.

Kun Iwaoka sanoo "keho", se ei tarkoita vain fyysistä kehoa. Työskentelemme aina kehon monien kerrosten kanssa - fyysisen, henkisen, psykologisen, hengellisen jne. samanaikaisesti.

Toisena päivänä siirrymme "kehon" työstämisestä muihin elementteihin.

Iwaoka toivoo osallistujien pääsevän kosketuksiin "kehonsa" kanssa ja olevan valmiimpia "kehoksi tulemiseen/olemiseen", olemaan avoimia kehossaan olevalle tuntemattomalle.

Aiempi buton harjoittaminen ei ole vaatimus osallistumiselle, vaan työpaja on avoin kaikille kehollisesta työskentelystä kiinnostuneille.

Workshop pidetään englanniksi.

TAMPERE BUTOH WEEKEND invites everyone interested in dance to explore butoh dance at Legioonateatteri, Tampere, on November 29–30, 2025.

The weekend includes a two-day workshop led by butoh dancer Tashi Iwaoka, and on Saturday, November 29, there will be a Performance Night featuring six butoh performances.

All events take place at Legioonateatteri.

No previous dance experience is required to participate!

Tashi Iwaoka is a performance artist/mover/butoh practitioner originally from Japan and currently based in Turku, Finland. After his first butoh experience in 1997 with Kazuo Ohno and Kim Itoh in Japan, Iwaoka has been developing butoh-based work for several decades.

Saturday (Legioonateatteri)

10:00–15:00 — Workshop by Tashi Iwaoka (JP/FIN)

17:00 — Butoh performance at Liikelaituri with Treenit ry (still unconfirmed; may be omitted and announced separately)

19:00 — Performance Night. Tickets at the door: €15. Free for workshop participants.

Sunday (Legioonateatteri)

10:00–16:00 — Workshop by Tashi Iwaoka (JP/FIN)

16:00–17:00 — Closing discussion and future plans

Workshop Description

In this weekend workshop, Tashi Iwaoka will introduce and explore the three main elements of his butoh practice:

The body

The feeling of movement

Becoming/being the body

On the first day, the focus is on the body, as it is the foundation for everything else.

When Iwaoka says “body,” he does not mean only the physical body. The work always involves many layers — physical, mental, psychological, spiritual, etc. — simultaneously.

On the second day, we will move from working with the “body” to the other elements.

Iwaoka hopes participants will come into contact with their own “bodies” and become more open to becoming/being the body — open to the unknown that exists within it.

Previous butoh experience is not required; the workshop is open to all who are interested in embodied practice.

The workshop will be held in English.
