Tulkinnanvaraista, a forum for avantgarde music, visits Tampere and presents Cornelius Cardew's experimental music theatre.
Tulkinnanvaraista, a forum for avantgarde music, brings to Tampere a performance of the fifth paragraph of Cornelius Cardew's The Great Learning. This experimental musical theatre work includes mime, chanting, recitation, instrumental compositions, choreography, games, vocal solos and improvisation. The libretto comes from Confucius' eponymous text, which encourages individual and collective growth through a pursuit of sincerity, compassion and balance.
Performing at Mältinranta Art Center are the Naarmu ensemble of music and performance art enthusiasts, UMUU Ensemble professionals and acting students from the University of Tampere, led by composer–musician Juho Laitinen and dramaturge–director Pauliina Hulkko.
The event is a continuation of a large-scale artistic research project carried out between 2020–2024: www.tulkinnanvaraista.fi/suuri-oppi.
The performance is free of charge and open for all to attend and follow as wished.
