Come to "Rest mode" to listen to Schubert's String Quintet. You can listen to the music while resting (your own cushion) or, if you prefer, sitting normally in a chair.

Come to Lepotilaan to listen to Schubert's Jus Quintet at the Laikku Music Hall of the Kulttuuritalo on Thursday, January 30th at 7 pm. You can listen to the music while resting (your own cushion) or, if you prefer, sitting normally on a chair. The string ensemble plays in the middle of the hall and there is space for the audience around the ensemble.

The concert will feature the String Quintet in C Major, the last instrumental work of Franz Schubert (1797-1828).

The musicians are:

Varpu Heikinheimo and Knuut Nissinen, violin

Janne Ahvenainen, viola

Hannes Jämsä and Auroora Perttunen, cello

Admission to the concert is free, and if you wish, you can pay for the musicians' work by purchasing the program for a free amount (5-20 e).

Schubert's music is well described by a psychiatrist and a flutist Jari Sinkkonen's thought in the book The Sources of Genius: “Schubert creates an image with small musical gestures that combines sadness, consolation and peace.” There is a lot of such beauty in all parts of the four-movement, hour-long String Quintet. Often, even under the most blissful moments, you can simultaneously hear shadows and an awareness of suffering, and on the other hand, under the darkest moments, the most compassionate, sincere and beautiful view can open up. According to Sinkkonen, the abundant variation of keys in Schubert's music also sometimes creates the feeling that “as if a window were opened and fresh air were flowing in”.

This work feels like a deep incision into human life: melancholy light, cheerful lightness and occasional crushing pain intertwine in it, forming a profound and extremely human whole. Our group has performed this work in psychiatric hospitals and shelters in various locations over the past year and a half. Now the work will be performed publicly in the center of Tampere.

The concert is supported by the City of Tampere Cultural Services.
