In this park concert, the sound of the kantele takes the listener to the roots of Finnish music and to the present day. The program includes music from the Kalevala, folk songs and modern art music – tunes where old tradition and modern expression meet.
For centuries, the kantele has been an instrument of stories, moods and quiet moments. The Kalevala tradition brings with it the song of poems and a narrative tone, folk songs bring familiar melodies and our shared memory, and more recent music opens up new sounds and possibilities for the instrument.
Wäinämöinen is studying kantele playing at the Tampere Conservatory.
