Reading Dogs in Libraries
Having a dog present while reading can inspire a person to read. The job of a reading dog is to listen to the reader and provide a presence. They don't judge or point out if the reader makes an error, reads more slowly than others or hesitates. Reading with a dog can be beneficial for children with reading difficulties or performance anxiety. The reading dog activity is free of charge. Reading dog activities are a form of Animal Assisted Activities and based on voluntariness.
You can read to a dog at the following libraries: Hervanta, Kaukajärvi, Koilliskeskus, Lielahti, Messukylä, Main Library Metso and Tesoma. Please register in advance for your chosen library.
Reading dog activity is a cooperation between Tampere City Library, The Finnish Kennel Club, Pirkanmaan opaskoirakerho and Pohjois-Hämeen kennelpiiri ry
