Photographs and eyewitness accounts of the Ukrainian famine, Holodomor, in 1932–1933.
The collectivization of agriculture and Joseph Stalin's reign of terror led to a famine in Soviet Ukraine in 1932–1933. The catastrophe was called the Holodomor. The tragedy was kept quiet both in the Soviet Union and in the West. Since then, the European Union and many countries, including Finland, have declared the events genocide.
Rare photographs tell the reality of the famine in Kharkiv and the Ukrainian countryside. The photos have not been exhibited in Finland before. In addition to the photos, the exhibition features memoirs about the experiences of the famine.
The exhibition is produced in cooperation with Holodomor Research and Education Consortium (HREC).
