The Adult Education Centre of the Tampere Region's Sara Hildén Academy's final exhibition "Beginning End" features works by students that address themes of nature, religion, femininity, and caregiving
The final exhibition "Beginning End" by adult students of basic education in visual arts at The Adult Education Centre of the Tampere Region's Sara Hildén Academy brings art to Haihara Art Centre from May 10 to June 1, 2025. The opening ceremony, open to all, will be held on Friday, May 9, 2025, from 6 PM to 8 PM.
The exhibition is the culmination of the students' studies, showcasing paintings, drawings, ceramics, sculptures, installations, mixed media, and motion picture by 12 artists. Admission to the exhibition is free.
Jari Rantanen's sculptures are juxtaposed with paintings that address the situation of salmon rivers in Lapland. Hanna Kivelä combines natural materials with precious metals in her jewelry-like sculptures, exploring themes of fragility and hardness.
Viljalaura Viitanen's installation consists of numerous ceramic braids, through which one can explore femininity, girlhood, and messages related to hair and tradition. Jonna Niiniaho's characters, inspired by Finnish forests and myths, are also ceramic. Scrap metal and discarded materials form thought-provoking ensembles in Anna-Maija Lehtinen-Kluth's works.
Saara Melama's painting triptych and sculpture focus on the impact of architecture and urban environments on their inhabitants. The passage of time and its vulnerability have become the subject of Marjukka Tainio's paintings and ceramics. Raisa Wester and Eeva Majalahti's painting ensembles address everyday caregiving and connection to others from their own perspectives.
Kirsi Soini's extensive series of paintings depicts the landscape of Lake Saimaa at different times of the day. Saints and religious symbolism form the center of Jaakko Leinonen's charcoal drawing triptych.
Peetu Hannukainen's animation and ensemble, which questions what kind of world we will leave for cockroaches, represent motion picture in the exhibition.
Basic education in visual arts is a comprehensive, curriculum-based study program lasting six academic years. The teachers are professional artists and visual arts experts.
In the final project, the student designs and creates an ensemble of works on a chosen topic using selected techniques during their final year of study. The portfolios on display in the exhibition reveal the creative process and thoughts behind the works.
