The Moomins turn 80 years!
To celebrate the anniversary, Tampere as the Home of the Moomin Museum is organising a Midwinter Magic event at the Tampere Hall on 5 January 2025. The free event for the whole family invites you to get inspired, get excited and have fun, and offers a tantalising taste of what the anniversary of the beloved characters has in store.
Unleash your imagination in the paper architecture workshop.
Art Arc, Children’s Cultural Centre Rulla and Moomin Museum offer a visual art workshop where two-dimensional houses are made from recycled materials. Is your house a tower like the Moomin house or perhaps an adventurous floating or mobile building? You can enter your house in the My Moominhouse competition of the celebratory year. Perhaps your house can serve as a bookmark or a doorstop for your own home. The workshop is run by instructors from the Art Arc, Moomin Museum and Children’s Cultural Centre Rulla and is suitable for everyone from 3 years onwards.
Moominvalley animated series as a marathon.
Immerse yourself in the marathon performance of the Yle Original Moominvalley animation series.
Pancakes, Moomins and music.
The Tampere Philharmonic Chamber Ensemble offers a musical experience by performing Erna Tauro's Autumn Song and at the same time the world's largest pancake buffet is available for purchase in restaurant Tuhto. During the event, the beloved Moomin characters will meet and greet the visitors. Pop by to say hello also to Moomintroll statue who stands in the familiar Sorsapuisto park next to Tampere Hall.
Read Moomin stories to the Reading Dog.
The reading dog is waiting eagerly for little readers and the stories they bring with them. Let him inspire you to read – he doesn't judge or point out mistakes, he enjoys every word.
Tampere, Home of the Moomin Museum
Like the doors of the Moomin House, also the doors of the Moomin Museum are always open to everyone – and free of charge during the celebration on 5th of January. Everyone is welcome, everyone is cared for and everyone is accepted as they are. Come and join the party!
The event is organised by the City of Tampere, in cooperation with the Moomin Museum, Tampere Hall, Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra, Yle, Gutsy Animations and the Finnish Kennel Club’s Reading Dogs.
